Lung cancer treatment

Patients with lung, pleural or mediastinal cancer may be offered different treatments, depending on the type of cancer and its spread or stage at the time of diagnosis. Treatments may be combined during therapy.

• Pleuropulmonary metastases requiring local treatment (committee-coordinated management depending on the primary tumour site)

History of the Institute

Professor Gustave Roussy was a specialist in pathological anatomy. In 1921 he established the first outpatient service for patients with cancer in Jean L’Hermitte’s department at the Paul-Brousse Hospital in Villejuif. Even at that time his intention was to combine patient care with research and teaching.

Le traitement du cancer ORL est issu d’une décision multidisciplinaire. Il est réalisé en fonction de la localisation de la tumeur, de son extension (taille, rapports avec les structures avoisinantes, ganglions et localisations secondaires) et de l'existence d'autres maladies chez le patient.

Traitement du mélanome

Chirurgie

Le traitement est chirurgical : une exérèse large, dont les marges sont fonction de l'épaisseur du mélanome. Le mélanome est retiré dans un premier temps ; une fois les résultats de l'analyse histologique obtenus (et notamment de l'épaisseur du mélanome), la reprise d'exérèse avec des marges saines adaptées est réalisée.

Bilan initial des cancers de la peau

Le bilan repose essentiellement sur l'examen clinique et recherche d'autres lésions suspectes sur la peau et/ou des signes d'atteinte à distance.

Pour les carcinomes, un bilan radiologique par scanner ou IRM n'est réalisé qu'en cas de tumeur volumineuse, récidivante ou située dans des zones à risque comme la région centro-faciale.
