Professor Thierry de Baère

Thierry de Baère

Professor Thierry de Baère served as a recognised specialist in interventional oncology radiology at Gustave Roussy.

He devoted his career to the development of minimally invasive therapies for the treatment of lung, liver and kidney cancers, and many others. His research focused in particular on intra-arterial therapies for primary and secondary liver tumours, as well as percutaneous ablation of hepatic tumours. Together with his team, and through collaborations with national and international multidisciplinary partners, he also contributed to the development of portal vein embolisation to enable more complex surgical procedures, innovative therapies for bone tumours, and technological advances such as robotic-assisted interventions. Interventional radiology in immuno-oncology (IO4IO) was among his most recent areas of research.

Professor de Baère was the principal investigator of several international studies on tumour ablation, intra-arterial therapies, combined treatment approaches and other innovative locoregional therapies for cancer.

Author of 450 publications and more than 350 scientific presentations, Professor de Baère contributed to numerous specialist journals in oncology and interventional radiology. He also served as Oncology Section Editor of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, the official journal of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE).

Professor de Baère was also a member of several scientific committees, including those of the French Society of Radiology (SFR), the Society of Interventional Oncology (SIO), CIRSE and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), thereby contributing to the international advancement and recognition of interventional oncology.
